Exchange 2010 – MSExchangeRepl error 4098   Leave a comment

****Updated for SP1 – February 4th, 2011****

Ever see the following annoying error in the Applications log?

Error 4098 MSExchangeRepl

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service couldn’t find a valid configuration for database ‘GUID-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx’

The GUID above should map to your Public Folder DB. You can verify this by running the following cmdlet through EMS:

Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server “Servername” | Format-List GUID

This is a bug (oops, I mean undocumented feature…confirmed by Microsoft) when the Microsoft Exchange Replication service is started. As long as your Public Folders are functional and the database is mounting fine then you shouldn’t worry. Service Pack 1 for Exchange 2010 corrects this err….”feature”.
